About Your Rights
Patients and consumers worldwide are becoming more informed.
Understanding your condition or chronic disease is the first step.
Having a good understanding of your illness, the language of your doctor or medical scheme or simply finding your way around the health service, will ensure you have access to medicines, an understanding of the choices of medicines available and the possibility to get the best care.
The environment is challenging and difficult to understand, but there are many resources available to obtain information.
Many patient organizations are no longer just providing disease specific information and support; they are expanding their scope and often include additional services.
Patient organizations are also starting to lobby for patient-centered care and patient rights. Demanding proper patient care in South Africa from governments and medical schemes, will ensure access to quality treatment.
